Et-remove Red Eye In Photoshop In 1 Minutes

One of the biggest re-occurring problems when it comes to taking photographs of people is a condition called redeye. I am sure you have seen the redeye in photographs were people's eyes are glowing red looking like they are the devil or something worse.

The basic cause of redeye in photographs is the flash from the camera actually illuminates tiny blood vessels in the back of the eye. Most cameras today have a mechanism to deal with this they do so by flashing a bright light briefly before the picture is taken. Sort of a pre-flash flash. The problem with this is that causes and over dilation of the subjects pupils which doesn't exactly look natural and this doesn't eliminate the problem 100% of the time.

A better solution is to use a program like Photoshop to remove redeye in photographs. Removing redeye in photographs can be done very quickly and easily in Photoshop.

Here is how:

Selected the red part of the eye using either the freehand lasso tool or the elliptical marquee tool. Work on one eye at a time
feather the selections slightly using the "feather" command from the select menu
Make sure you have encompassed all of the red part of the eye. You can use the "expand" or "contract" commands from the selection menu if you have made the selection the wrong size
Open the "hue/saturation" menu from the "image adjust" submenu. You can select the channel you want to effect the hue and saturation of using the drop-down list. Select the red channel for our purposes of removing redeye
Drag the saturation slider to the left about -77 or until you achieve the desired effect of reducing the redeye to the point that you're satisfied.
You can also slide "lightness" pointers sliders slightly to the left as well. This often works well as there is often an over exaggeration of brightness reflecting off of the eye in photographs in addition to the red eye effect
Once you are satisfied with the results make note of the settings as you will now apply similar settings to the other eye
