Iphone Voip Is The Hottest Ticket In Town

The hottest topic in the iPhone market today is the maturing of iPhone VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology. It is said to be maturing because it has actually been around for some time now but it seems as if it is finally coming of age. That’s because with in the last couple of months there have been great strides made in truly opening up the arena of Internet telephony for iPHone. This is not just good news for iPhone users but iTouch users as well since they can also take advantage of new developments in the iPhone VoIP arena.

A key draw to iPhone VoIP is the money that can be saved by using VoIP. If you are paying roaming charges this alone can make it worthwhile since using the Internet for phone calls avoids this fee. You can also avoid using traditional cellular minutes and long distance charges.

One indication that things are truly heating up is the recent announcement by Skype that they are in the iPhone VoIP market with both feet. The Skype iPhone VoIP application is now available for download from the Apple store as are other third party applications that allow users to take advantage of VoIP via wireless (wi-fi) networks. While many users had hoped to be able to use SIP (session initiation protocol) technology to use their cellular networks for iPhone VoIP, for now they will have to be satisfied with wi-fi for iPhone VoIP. While wi-fi may not be a perfect solution, its use is the result of a compromise that somewhat protects AT&T’s market share in traditional cellular talk time. Up until recently Apple had discouraged the further development of the iPhone VoIP segment by resisting support for third party developers. It seems those days are behind us.

Using SIP, iPhone and iTouch users can avoid many of the fees associated with traditional cell phone calling. As an added bonus, iPhone VoIP will interface with popular social networking sites such as Twitter and allow for instant messaging. You can even find applications that allow for sophisticated features such as conference calling. Most of the full featured iPhone VoIP applications are relatively robust and offer a full slate of special features.

Just about everyday new iPod VoIP applications are becoming available and with each generation improvements are made. Providers have been able to provide iPhone VoIP between users on compatible systems for some time now but with current advances calls to landlines and mobile phones can also be accomplished. This is possible using global SIP providers such as SIPgate and Gizmo. So far we have only seen what 3G has to offer. As 4G becomes a reality we will find even more functionality, speed, and reliability. Yes, in terms of iPhone VoIP we are seeing good times indeed.

To find the right iPhone VoIP application for you will need to spend some time examining your options. In the end, the time you spend researching will be well worth it as you may never have to pay another phone tariff again.
