How I keep my pearl necklace clean
I love my peal necklace. In fact I have more two, but in fact, there are many types of a pearl necklace to choose from?the pearls can be freshwater, Tahitian, akoya, etc. But even someone who doesn't own a pearl necklace has to admit that Cultured Pearls are one of the most intriguing, stunning and beloved gems in the whole world.
Pearl necklaces are often worn for special occasions such as graduations, anniversary dinners, weddings and more. A pearl necklace is frequently passed down from generation to generation?from grandmother to mother to daughter. Over time a pearl necklace might begin to lose luster from its wear and improper storage. That means your pearl necklace needs cleaning. And that's where I come in with some tips on cleaning your pearl necklace.
There are many cleaning methods, but be careful?some methods can actually damage the delicate pearl surfaces. So be extremely careful with your pearl necklace when you are attempting to clean away traces of perspiration, cosmetics and hairspray. That way the pearl necklace will retain it's original beauty and luster.
Here is how I clean my pearl necklace:
1- First, I open the pearl necklace clasp and lay the necklace out flat on a towel.
2- Then I put a dollop of toothpaste, about the size of a nickel, in a handy dish. Then I add an equal amount of water and mix with a toothbrush until it is well blended. Toothpaste is formulated to clean the enamel of teeth, which is very similar to the nacre coating of the pearls on your pearl necklace.
3- Then I gently brush the pearls with the toothbrush, rolling the pearls over to get all sides. It's important to re-wet your toothbrush with the toothpaste solution often so it doesn't dry before you are finished cleaning your pearl necklace.
4- Finally, I clean the whole length of the cultured pearl strand and rinse in clean water when I am done. You can lay the necklace out on a clean part of the towel to air dry.
It's important to clean your pearl necklace no more than about once a year so that you don't damage it. And if you are looking for the best place to buy a pearl necklace, there are many beautiful ones available online at Eagle National Mint. I highly recommend!!
