Wireless Internet in Boston: A Mayor’s Wireless Vision Takes Root
In February of 2006, the mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino, unveiled his wireless city plans for the city he heads up and created a wireless task force to implement a city-wide wireless plan with a vision of helping those citizens of Boston that lack access to the information superhighway become plugged in to the newest Internet technologies and educational information. The mayor has big plans for Boston, and the "possibilities are endless" with this innovative plan to bring broadband Internet services to all citizens around the city of Boston. The mayor would like to see companies, such as Earthlink, Verizon, and others get into the Wireless Boston mode and begin making the city an example of Internet technology and education by providing free access for wireless internet across the city at hotspots for Wifi, beginning with the city's libraries that now have free Wifi access to Internet.
