AlexieTorres YMPJ: Alexie Torres-Fleming - Executive Director of YMPJ

For those of you who don't know who Alexie Torres-Fleming is, she is the executive director of Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, a grassroots, community organizing group located in the South Bronx.  Alexie Torres-Fleming grew up herself in the Bronx River Houses, which is a public project.  On December 10, 2006, she was featured in a broadcast by IBC, Interfaith Broadcasting Commission's Sacred Earth, Sacred People, an interfaith religion special which was broadcasted on CBS.

Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice is involved in cleaning up the Bronx River waters and developing parkland along its shores, as well as working with landlords, tenants, and city agencies to clean up pollution in the South Bronx, where high levels of air pollution have caused health risks, including a high rate of asthma, in this historically poor area, which composes the "poorest congressional district in the nation."

Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice works to empower high school students to make a real impact on their neighborhoods and to bring economic and environmental justice to their area through the empowerment process.  For more information on Alexie Torres-Fleming, see the website at interfaithbroadcasting.com about the December broadcast featuring Ms. Torres-Fleming and others involved with Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice in the South Bronx area.

There are many articles regarding the work that Alexie Torres-Fleming does in her capacity as executive director for YMPJ, and they are listed on the Internet in large numbers, as well as information on YMPJ itself.
