BBC4 Arts Culture Programme Show

Before the launch of BBC2's arts and culture program in late 2004, The Culture Show, the BBC4 arts culture program/show on British television was the official arts and culture station for the BBC.  BBC4 was started as the official arts and culture station for the BBC in late 2001, when it replaced the digital channel BBC Knowledge.  The BBC4 arts culture program/show on British television was, at its inception, an arts and culture program of which the development of the station was approved by the British government.  In reviewing professional opinions on the present BBC2's The Culture Show, BBC4 was not fairing well in its format of British arts and culture among artists, directors, and professionals of the theater.

The BBC, at the inception of BBC4, was extremely excited in launching the arts and cultural channel and felt that it had great potential to last into the future generation; however, the decision was made in 2004 to reformat the BBC4 arts and culture programing into a more culturally diverse tone and to take on a more serious and truthful reflection of the diversity of contributions to British culture.

BBC4, lined up as a new cultural channel, was given the go-ahead by the Government earlier this year and will replace the digital channel BBC Knowledge.

Mr Keating said: "BBC Four is British television's boldest new investment in cultural programming for a generation, and being given the chance to launch it is one of the most exciting jobs in TV.
