GM Canola: Genetically Modified Canola

GM Canola was first introduced in 1995, and, according to the article mentioned above, it is now grown on about 80 percent of the acres in Canada.  Besides gm canola's better resistance to certain herbicides, it is said to bring better yields, better returns, and more profits.  In a 2001 study, growers in Canada said that gm canola yielded a 10-percent increase over conventional canola.  The growers attributed the increase to "better yielding varieties, earlier seeding, and better weed control."
