Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 Unveiled for AMG’s 55th Anniversary
The high-performance division of the three-pointed star marque recently unveiled the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 in commemoration of AMG’s 55th founding anniversary. The car will be hand-built at the race car plant of the company in Affalterbach, and will only be limited to five units.
Compared to the standard AMG GT3, the Edition 55 is not an FIA homologated car so its maker had no restrictions on its aerodynamics, weight, and mechanicals. The exterior features a new livery with AMG graphics and race stripes over an alpine grey finish. It’s also highlighted by its vast application of carbon fiber elements on the diffusers, rear wing, front grille, side skirts, flicks, and rear wing. Meanwhile, the interior retains the car’s signature racing design but with more carbon trims and silver accents over a matte anthracite metallic-dominated cabin. Of course, there are “Edition 55 – 1 of 5” inscriptions here and there just to remind everyone of the exclusivity of each unit.
The 6.3-liter V8 engine of the auto greatly benefits from the lack of FIA restrictions in its design too. With that, the engineers of AMG were able to squeeze out up to 650 hp or an additional 100 hp from the original numbers of the race car variant.
The price of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 is set at €625,000 or around $620,000 in the current exchange rates, excluding VAT. As a bonus, every buyer of the AMG GT3 Edition 55 is treated to a special IWC timepiece with an engraving of the purchased car’s respective chassis number.
