Turkish TV series, what a passion! The titles of the moment and those to recover
In the 1980s and 1990s, it was American soap operas and South American soap operas that kept female viewers company on a daily basis, daydreaming with romantic love stories or keeping them in suspense with plots full of twists and turns. At the end of the 2000s we saw the boom in Spanish television series, but in the last five years they have seen their kingdom challenged by Turkish fiction.
By now, Made in Turkey series have conquered not only live TV shows, but also streaming platforms.
Here are the headlines of the moment and the ones you should catch up on.
From Terra Amara to My Home My Destiny
If we were to explain the love story between the Italian public and the Turkish series, we should start like this: “Galeotti were the schedules of the Mediaset networks, specifically of Canale 5”. It is here, in fact, where the first titles that entered our hearts appeared: we speak for example of Love is in the airbut also of Bitter Sweet – Ingredients of love, DayDreamer – The wings of the dream e Mr. Wrong – Lessons in love which turned the actor Can Yaman into a star in our country as well.
And the wave of success did not end there, because then came the “opportunity” bitter earth: the series, set in the 1970s and 1980s, debuted on Canale 5 in the summer of 2022 and has kept viewers hooked ever since, not just during the day. In fact, we remind you that the soap opera is currently also broadcast on Sundays in prime time.
Instead, last summer we were conquered by the story of The girl and the officer and of the series My home, my destiny (starring the beloved Demet Ozdemir), the second season of which can currently be seen on Mediaset Infinity. Journeys between different genres in streaming
The other streaming platform where Turkish series reign is undoubtedly Netflix. Here, for example, the third season has just arrived the tailor which, contrary to what might be inferred from the title, is not simply about fashion: it is in fact a story that mixes passion and mystery, with a hint of thriller. It is no accident that it has become so popular. It is another very fascinating thriller the gift (three seasons), in which a young painter embarks on a journey to discover the universal secrets of an Anatolian archaeological site while shedding light on her past.
Instead, it moves in different temporal planes Midnight in Istanbul (two seasons), where the protagonist is a journalist who is in a historic hotel in Istanbul for a report, but who is suddenly catapulted into the past where she must prevent the development of a plot that could change destiny of modern Turkey.
A series that is a few years old (in fact it is dated 2016), but that deserves to be recovered intersection (three seasons) whose ingredients are love, fatherhood, power and revenge. The male lead is Ibrahim Çelikkol, who has now also become famous in Italy thanks to My Home My Destiny.
